The mission of Whole Planet Foundation is to create economic partnerships through microcredit with the poor in communities that supply Whole Foods Market ® stores with product. Microcredit is small loans - usually $300 or less - requiring no collateral or contract. They are offered to the poorest of the poor, with a focus on women, enabling them to finance self-employment projects and generate income. Typical microcredit business include neighborhood stores, weaving, sewing, raising chickens, pigs and cows, small-scale agriculture, pottery, artisan goods, prepared foods and many more. Whole Planet Foundation is supporting more than 22,500 impoverished individuals in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the United States. Providing the poor in these communities with access to credit empowers them with an opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty.
Heifer envisions… A world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet. Heifer’s mission is… To work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth. Heifer’s strategy is… To “pass on the gift.” As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe. Heifer’s History This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for over 60 years. Today, millions of families in 128 countries have been given the gifts of self-reliance and hope.
