I was writing a friend and I told her that I was feeling much more in control of my eating. Then I realized that wasn’t quite right. I am feeling that my eating is less in control of me.

It really helps me to have a weekly phone check-in. I stick with my positive program because I know that I’m going to be talking with my coach, Maryann. If I wasn’t checking-in I might procrastinate more. Every week I want to be able to report that I’ve been mindful and sticking with it. We talk about bumps in the road and times when I’ve noticed feeling bad and wanting to eat compulsively. Maryann is very insightful and encouraging.

“I am running experiments- going at it from a sense of experiments point of view. Changing one or two variables at a time. Actually seeing some measurable results- learned what healthy foods my body wants to eat. I have learned to be kinder to myself using the altruism experiment.” – Anonymous
“I have learned to turn off my TV while eating, being more mindful, attending mindfulness class and running 5 miles at a time. Altruism- I feel good when I give. I’ve gone back to volunteering as a way to increase my altruism. My health is improving – I’m eating healthier and exercising more. “ –Diane
“I am cognizant of my actions to overeat and seem to be able to control it. Altruism- When I have thought about it and made the contribution, there is a smile on my face upon making the donation. I have lost 25 pounds since starting the program. I’ve committing to making a change in my diet and lifestyle. I learned to take a deep breath or count my breaths and take my mind off impulsive acts and determine whether it is actually good for me to not eat undesirable food.” – Anonymous
“ I’m stopping to breathe. Being more mindful about my choices.” - Anonymous
